The Netherlands Embassy in Athens has launched an essay competition for students enrolled in a Greek university to commemorate the legacy of Max van der Stoel. During the years of the Greek military dictatorship (1967–1974), he was among the very few European politicians who spoke out publicly against the regime’s human rights violations and expressed solidarity with those who resisted it. After the fall of the junta, Max van der Stoel became the first foreign minister to visit Greece, where he was received as a hero in Athens.
You can find more details and the competition criteria online. This is also announced on the social media channels (Facebook and LinkedIn).
